Colquitt County Flag Football Team Prepares for Crucial Matches

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County flag football team experienced mixed results last week, resulting in a current record of 3-3 and a tie for third place in District 4, Area 1 with Valdosta and Thomasville. Leading the area is the high-scoring Thomas County Central, boasting an unbeaten record of 6-0.

With an overall record of 6-6, the Lady Packers are set to face both Thomasville and Thomas County Central starting at 5 PM on Tuesday in Thomasville. Thomas County Central holds an overall record of 8-2, having outscored their opponents 302-79. They have been particularly dominant in area matchups, outpacing rivals 203-18. Their previous encounter with the Lady Packers resulted in a 20-6 victory on October 14 at their home field.

In their upcoming rematch against Thomasville, the Lady Packers aim to replicate their earlier success, having secured a narrow 13-6 win in their first meeting. Additionally, the Lady Packers have scheduled area doubleheaders against Cook and Valdosta on November 1 at Thomas County Central, followed by contests against Irwin County and Lowndes on November 18 at the Hawg Pen. Currently, Lowndes sits in second place in the area with a record of 5-1, and their only area loss has come against Thomas County Central.

In their last game against Lowndes on October 28, the Lady Packers faced a formidable opponent, losing 31-7. Freshman Dyi James recorded Colquitt”s sole touchdown, leading the team with 62 rushing yards on eight carries. However, the Lady Packers struggled in the passing game, completing only 8 of 27 attempts, with Jaelyn Wier catching three passes. On defense, junior Jenedi Leon led with four flag-pulls.

The Lady Packers enjoyed a more favorable matchup against Irwin County, achieving a dominant 34-0 victory. In this game, James threw two touchdown passes to freshman Taylor Brown, while Allie Eure also connected with James for a scoring pass. Brown was the standout performer, rushing for 133 yards, and James contributed two touchdown passes alongside two rushing touchdowns. Dru McLeod also found the end zone for the Lady Packers.
