Concordia quarterback Jersey Selzler delivered a thrilling performance on Saturday, scoring two touchdowns in the fourth quarter that led his team to a 17-14 victory over Macalester in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) matchup.
With just 32 seconds remaining, Selzler executed a 2-yard touchdown run that capped off a crucial four-play, 74-yard drive initiated by an interception from Concordia”s Kyle Mages, marking his fourth interception of the season. This play came shortly after Macalester had advanced to Concordia”s 17-yard line, looking poised to extend their lead.
As the clock wound down, Macalester attempted to mount a final challenge, advancing to the Cobbers” 35-yard line. However, defensive efforts from Concordia”s Ethan Anderson and Mages thwarted the Scots” last two pass attempts, sealing the Cobbers” victory.
Selzler completed 9 of 16 passes for 147 yards, which included an impressive 63-yard completion to Alejandro Sanchez. He also contributed significantly on the ground, scoring two rushing touchdowns. Mason Hughes led the rushing attack for Concordia, amassing 148 yards on 26 carries, while Sanchez recorded 103 yards from his two receptions.
The scoring began for Concordia in the fourth quarter with a 28-yard field goal from Mitchell Druley, narrowing Macalester”s lead to 7-3. The Scots responded by extending their advantage to 14-3, thanks to a short touchdown run by Brennan Litchford with 11:18 left in the game. Nevertheless, the Cobbers quickly responded with a 55-yard drive, culminating in Selzler”s touchdown from 20 yards out, pulling the score to 14-10 with 8:16 remaining.
With this victory, Concordia improved their season record to 6-3 overall and 5-3 in conference play, while Macalester fell to 3-6, holding a 2-6 record in the MIAC.
