Fairview Knights Dominate Arapahoe Warriors in 5A Playoff Victory

The Fairview Knights delivered a commanding performance against the Arapahoe Warriors, winning 78-28 in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs on Friday night at Recht Field. This victory marks a significant moment for a team that has often faced challenges in the postseason due to a less demanding regular-season schedule.

Initially, the game showcased a tight contest in the first quarter, with Arapahoe leading 21-15. However, chaos ensued as Fairview unleashed their offensive firepower. Junior quarterback Ki Ellison and senior wide receiver Sabi Ruttgers were the stars of the night, combining for a remarkable eleven touchdowns. Ellison threw for 311 yards and added 115 rushing yards, while Ruttgers totaled 244 offensive yards.

“I always knew I was good, but this honestly proved it to myself and the state too,” Ruttgers stated. “Everyone said it would be a close game, and we came out here and mercy-ruled them. It”s insane. We might have the best receiving core in the state.”

Ruttgers wasn”t alone in his scoring. Senior standout Toray Davis added three touchdowns, while Asher Allen and Ryan Rutherford each contributed one touchdown to further cement Fairview”s dominance.

Although the first half ended with Fairview leading 36-21, the defensive efforts were just as noteworthy. Arapahoe managed to recover a fumble that briefly put them ahead, and they also halted Fairview on a crucial fourth down. However, Fairview responded decisively, blocking a punt that led to an easy touchdown pass to Davis.

Ellison”s defensive contribution was also significant as he intercepted an Arapahoe pass, showcasing his versatility after playing full safety for the first time this season. “I knew my moment was coming. I was excited,” Ellison remarked about the interception. “I just jumped the route. It shows that I”m an athlete. I can go both ways.”

The Knights” defense continued to shine, with Davis adding another interception just before halftime, sealing the momentum in Fairview”s favor. Following this impressive performance, the Knights will face the top-seeded Cherry Creek next week at Stutler Bowl.

“We have great respect for Arapahoe,” said coach Tom McCartney. “They come from the Cherry Creek league, which means they are battle-tested. This matchup between No. 8 and No. 9 brings out the hunger for victory, and we wanted to show what we can do against great teams.”
