Mustang Players Earn Honors on 2A All-State Football Team

The PCM football team had an impressive season, maintaining a position in the top five of Class 2A rankings for most of the year. Although they fell just short of reaching another state semifinal, three standout players have been honored for their contributions this season.

The Iowa Football Coaches Association (IFCA) named sophomore Hayden Shannon to the first team of the 2A all-state roster. Shannon excelled as an offensive lineman, playing a critical role in the Mustangs” offense, which ranked tied for second in Class 2A with 57 offensive touchdowns. The team also secured third place in total yards with 4,335, rushing yards with 2,695, and rushing touchdowns with 37. Last season, Shannon received second-team recognition.

Senior players Keegan Fenton and Gavin Steenhoek received accolades as well, marking their first all-state selections. Fenton was named to the second team as a defensive lineman and led the Mustangs with 61 tackles. He also tied for sixth in Class 2A with 18 tackles for loss and ranked fourth with nine sacks. His 54 solo tackles placed him 15th in the class.

Steenhoek earned recognition for his exceptional performance as a return specialist. He accumulated 437 kickoff return yards, ranking as the sixth most in Class 2A. Averaging 27.3 yards per return, he was one of only seven players in the class to return two kickoffs for touchdowns. Additionally, Steenhoek averaged 6.9 yards on 17 punt returns, placing him third in that category.
