Delaware”s Top Wide Receiver BJ Garrett Signs with Syracuse

BJ Garrett, a highly regarded wide receiver from Delaware, has officially signed his national letter of intent with Syracuse. The announcement was made by the university on Wednesday. Rated as a three-star recruit by 247 Sports, Garrett stands as the fourth overall prospect from Delaware for the class of 2026.

Garrett has been committed to Syracuse since January, choosing the Orange over several notable programs including Duke, Rutgers, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia. He emphasized that his decision was influenced by the strong relationships he built with the coaching staff and the university”s commitment to player development. “I thought it would be the best decision for me,” Garrett stated to The Juice Online. “Especially because of how they develop their receivers.”

The connection between Garrett and Syracuse dates back to the era of former head coach Dino Babers, who extended an offer to him in June 2023. “It was very unexpected,” Garrett expressed. “But I”m very grateful for it.” He has closely followed the Syracuse football program and the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) in recent years, noting, “I think that Syracuse is a great football program, and they play in a great football conference.”

Under the leadership of Fran Brown, the coaching staff renewed their interest in Garrett, re-offering him in February 2024. “It makes me feel wanted by the program,” he remarked about the renewed attention. Coaches Dennis Thomas and Mike Johnson have maintained communication with him throughout the coaching changes, while assistant coach Devin Redd, who re-extended the offer, has also played a significant role in Garrett”s recruitment.

Reflecting on his recent performance, Garrett believes he has showcased his abilities to major college programs. “I feel like this was my breakthrough year to show everyone what I can really do, but I also have things I need to work on in the offseason to be my best next season,” he explained. Last season, he led the Middletown High team to a 10-3 record, culminating in a victory over Salesianum in the DIAA State Championships, where they triumphed 28-14.

Garrett describes himself as a versatile wide receiver, capable of executing a variety of routes. “I am the type of WR that can run any route in the route tree,” he mentioned in a previous interview. “I have a great catch radius with a very big catch percentage.”
