Horvel Angels Triumph Over Fosla Academy to Secure 2025 HerGame Girls Title

Horvel Angels emerged as the champions of the 2025 HerGame Girls Football Championship after defeating the defending champions Fosla Academy with a score of 2-0 in a decisive final held on Saturday.

This year”s tournament marked a significant increase in scope and quality, transitioning from a competition limited to Abuja to a regional event that featured 16 teams from the North Central zone, fostering a more competitive environment and showcasing new talents and technical skills.

The match began with Horvel Angels taking control early on. Agatha John scored a composed goal in the first half after a period of sustained pressure from her team. The victory was confirmed in the second half when Lilian Odide, a standout player of the tournament, netted a clinical strike.

Earlier in the day, SIK Paragon from Jos secured third place with a narrow 1-0 victory over Generation Next, earning a bronze prize of ₦100,000. The runners-up, Fosla Academy, received ₦150,000, while the champions, Horvel Angels, took home the top prize of ₦250,000.

Individual awards highlighted the tournament as well, with Patricia Habila of Fosla Academy being named the Most Valuable Player for her outstanding play in midfield. Meanwhile, Lilian Odide finished as the Top Scorer with six goals throughout the tournament, including her decisive goal in the final. Flora Williams of SIK Paragon was recognized as the Best Goalkeeper, having only conceded one goal during the competition.

The head coach of Horvel Angels, Ogbada Atta, praised his team”s discipline and resilience. “The girls were exceptional from start to finish. They stayed disciplined, followed instructions, and showed real hunger. Beating Fosla in a final is no small achievement. This win means everything to us,” he stated.

Despite the defeat, Fosla Academy”s head coach, Christopher Igbuku, expressed pride in his players. “We fought hard, but Horvel were more decisive today. My players gave their all, and I am proud of them. We will bounce back stronger. That is our tradition,” he said.

The founder of the HerGame Foundation and the sole sponsor of the tournament expressed satisfaction with the championship”s development, reaffirming her commitment to creating a national platform for emerging female footballers. “HerGame is fulfilling its purpose of discovering, empowering, and projecting the next generation of female footballers,” she remarked. “Every girl who played here has a future in the game, and we will keep expanding this platform nationwide.”

A member of the FCT FA board and Head of the Women”s Football Committee acknowledged the significant contributions from key stakeholders, emphasizing the cooperative effort behind the tournament”s success. “HerGame is built on collaboration and genuine support. I deeply appreciate the Nigeria Football Federation for donating match balls, and we are grateful for the one million naira financial support from the Chairman of the House Committee on Sports. Their contributions strengthened the competition and demonstrated that investing in girls” football is a shared responsibility,” she noted.

The FCT FA Secretary and Head of the Organizing Committee praised the technical quality and overall execution of the event. “The level of organization, officiating, and talent on display shows how far HerGame has come in just its second edition. The standard was top-class,” he stated.

With the Horvel Angels lifting the 2025 championship trophy and Fosla Academy finishing as runners-up, the HerGame Girls Football Championship continues to solidify its role as one of Nigeria”s most significant grassroots platforms for identifying and nurturing future stars of women”s football.
