As the 2025 high school football season in Mississippi concludes, the final state rankings have been released. Gulfport has claimed the number one position following a dramatic victory in the Class 7A state championship. In a pivotal matchup, the previously top-ranked team, West Point, suffered a defeat against Brookhaven, which opened the door for Gulfport to rise.
The Class 7A championship was nothing short of spectacular, featuring an unforgettable finish. Trailing 20-14, Gulfport executed a stunning Hail Mary pass, which was caught by Mylan Stubbs in a remarkable diving grab. This crucial play tied the game, and Gulfport successfully converted an extra point with no time left on the clock, securing the championship.
In other championship action, Columbia clinched the 4A title with a narrow 6-0 win over Kosciusko, finishing the season as the only unbeaten team in the state at 15-0. Raleigh also made a strong showing, finishing seventh overall after a 12-6 victory against Noxubee County in the 3A championship.
Another notable rise in the rankings came from East Webster, which jumped from unranked to 11th after their surprising win over Heidelberg, finishing 28-16 in the 2A playoffs.
