Curt Cignetti Named AP Coach of the Year for Second Straight Season

Curt Cignetti has been recognized as the Associated Press Coach of the Year in college football for the second consecutive season. This accolade marks a significant achievement as he becomes the first coach to secure this honor back-to-back since the award”s inception in 1998.

Under Cignetti”s leadership, Indiana has enjoyed remarkable success, compiling an impressive 24-2 record over the span of two seasons. This year, the Hoosiers have not only remained undefeated at 13-0 but also clinched the Big Ten championship for the first time since 1967. Their outstanding performance has earned them the top seed in the College Football Playoff.

Cignetti received overwhelming support in the voting process, garnering 47 first-place votes. His closest competitors, Joey McGuire of Texas Tech and Clark Lea of Vanderbilt, each received two votes, while Tony Elliott from Virginia secured one.

In other news, a men”s basketball game scheduled between Brown and Southern California has been canceled, along with a women”s matchup against Monmouth in Rhode Island. This decision comes in the wake of a tragic mass shooting at Brown”s campus in Providence last Saturday, prompting both institutions to mutually agree on the cancellations. Brown”s next scheduled game will occur on December 31 at their home venue. Meanwhile, the Trojans are set to face an opponent yet to be announced on Sunday at the Galen Center.
