Cardinals confirm Brissett as starter against Seahawks, sidelining Murray

The Arizona Cardinals have decided to start quarterback Jacoby Brissett for their game against the Seattle Seahawks this Sunday, according to head coach Jonathan Gannon. This announcement came just a day after Brissett helped the team secure its first victory since mid-September, defeating the Dallas Cowboys 27-17.

Initially, Gannon had indicated that Kyler Murray would reclaim the starting position. When pressed for reasons behind the decision, Gannon stated, “That”s just how I feel.” However, on Tuesday, he reversed his stance, opting for the 32-year-old Brissett as the starter ahead of a short week leading into the NFC West matchup.

Murray has not played since October 5 and had limited participation in practice last week. Before the announcement of Brissett as the starter, Murray was declared inactive for the game against the Cowboys shortly before kickoff. According to sources reported by ESPN”s Adam Schefter, both Murray and the Cardinals have sought opinions from multiple medical professionals regarding his foot injury, with recovery timelines ranging from four to eight weeks and a heightened risk of setbacks until the injury is fully healed.

In his three starts this season, Brissett has averaged 256 passing yards and 7.7 yards per attempt, tossing six touchdowns against one interception. Conversely, Murray, in his five starts, averaged 170 passing yards and 6.0 yards per attempt, with six touchdowns and three interceptions.

The Cardinals” decision to stick with Brissett reflects the team”s current focus on performance and recovery as they prepare for a crucial game against a division rival.
