Chiefs Quarterback Gardner Minshew Suffers Knee Injury Against Titans

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Gardner Minshew sustained a left knee injury during the second quarter of the game against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. The injury forced him to exit the contest early, and he was subsequently ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Minshew”s last play occurred when Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons tackled running back Kareem Hunt in the end zone, resulting in a safety with 13:06 remaining in the second quarter. Before the injury, Minshew completed 3 of 8 passes for 15 yards.

Following Minshew”s departure, Chris Oladokun took over as the Chiefs” quarterback. In his initial five plays, Oladokun handed off the ball before attempting his first pass, which he threw away. He eventually connected with tight end Travis Kelce for a 6-yard gain, marking his first completion in the NFL. The Chiefs managed to secure a 54-yard field goal by Harrison Butker, taking a 3-2 lead.

Oladokun”s experience in the NFL is limited; his only previous regular-season appearance came on January 5, when he backed up Carson Wentz in a 38-0 defeat against the Denver Broncos. In that game, he ran for 5 yards, was sacked once, and had a fumble. A seventh-round draft pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2022, Oladokun played at South Florida and also attended Samford and South Dakota State.

The Chiefs are facing a challenging situation as they navigate the remainder of the season with Minshew”s injury affecting their quarterback depth. The impact on their playoff aspirations remains to be seen as the team adjusts to their new offensive leader.
