Jets GM Explains Decision to Keep Breece Hall Amid Trade Deadline Rumors

New York Jets General Manager Darren Mougey addressed the decision not to trade running back Breece Hall shortly after the trade deadline on November 4. In a press conference, he emphasized the significance of Hall”s role within the team.

Before the 4 p.m. ET deadline, the Jets executed several significant trades, including a deal that sent 2022 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for two first-round draft picks and wide receiver Adonai Mitchell. Additionally, they traded All-Pro defensive tackle Quinnen Williams to the Dallas Cowboys for a second-round pick in 2026 and a first-round pick in 2027, along with defensive tackle Mazi Smith.

Following these trades, Hall became the subject of trade speculation, particularly after he posted ambiguous messages on social media regarding the departures of his teammates. He later expressed his feelings about the trades before deleting his posts shortly after the trade window closed.

During his time with the Jets, Hall has accumulated 2,914 rushing yards and scored 16 touchdowns over four seasons. He is currently under a rookie contract worth USD 9,014,774, which spans four years.

On the “SYN Show,” insider Connor Hughes revealed that the Kansas City Chiefs had made an offer to the Jets for Hall. The Chiefs were seeking additional support in their running back rotation due to Isiah Pacheco“s injury, which left veteran Kareem Hunt as their only experienced option. Ultimately, however, the Chiefs did not complete any trades before the deadline.

As it stands, the Jets are currently positioned fourth in the AFC East with a record of 1-7. Their first win under new head coach Aaron Glenn came in Week 8 against the Cincinnati Bengals, breaking a seven-game losing streak.
