Howie Roseman Explains Decision to Keep A.J. Brown at Trade Deadline

Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman addressed the recent NFL trade deadline and his choice to retain wide receiver A.J. Brown. Leading up to the deadline, Brown”s name was frequently mentioned as a potential trade target, particularly given his public dissatisfaction with his role within the offense.

During the ongoing 2025 NFL season, which has seen the reigning Super Bowl champions navigating their schedule, Brown has recorded 29 receptions for 395 yards and three touchdowns in the first seven games. Despite the swirling trade rumors, no offers were made, and Roseman confirmed that he never seriously considered trading the talented receiver.

“When you”re trying to be a great team, it”s hard to trade great players. A.J. Brown is a great player,” Roseman stated, as reported by team insider EJ Smith. He emphasized Brown”s commitment to his teammates and his leadership, noting that Brown wears the “C” for a reason. Roseman further elaborated, “He”s an important part of this team and this organization. When you”re a team like ours that”s looking forward to an opportunity to compete for a championship, you just don”t get rid of guys like that.”

Throughout this season, Brown has only led the Eagles in receiving once, achieving six receptions for 109 yards and a touchdown against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 3. His standout performance came in Week 7, where he caught four passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns in a victory over the Minnesota Vikings. Unfortunately, during this impressive display, Brown sustained a hamstring injury that sidelined him for the Eagles” Week 8 win against the New York Giants.

Despite the injury setback, he is expected to return to action following the Eagles” bye week as they prepare for a matchup against the Green Bay Packers in Week 10. With a current record of 6-2, the Eagles are positioning themselves for another shot at the playoffs.
