Retired QB Critiques Jaxson Dart”s Father for Meddling in Career

Former New York Giants quarterback and current CBS Sports analyst Danny Kanell has publicly criticized the father of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart for his excessive involvement in his son”s career. Kanell”s remarks come after Brandon Dart, Jaxson”s father, launched an online attack on Kanell following a Giants victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.

After the Giants” 34-10 win, Brandon Dart took to social media, dismissively telling Kanell to “Eat a Fat One.” Kanell responded on VT Sports, expressing his disapproval of Brandon”s interference, saying, “I don”t know why you”re messing and meddling in your son”s business.” He argued that such behavior only draws negative attention to Jaxson, who is still finding his footing in the NFL.

Kanell emphasized that Jaxson should let his performance on the field speak for itself instead of having his father defend him publicly. He remarked, “Just let him go be him. You don”t have to come to your son”s rescue. Let his play do the talking.” Kanell believes that Brandon”s actions may inadvertently create a target on Jaxson”s back, inviting further criticism from those doubting his abilities.

As a starting quarterback, Jaxson Dart holds a record of 3-8, raising questions about his future with the Giants. Kanell expressed skepticism about Dart being the long-term solution for the team, stating, “I still haven”t seen development as a passer.” He noted that while Dart has shown potential, he needs to improve his passing game and reduce his reliance on running plays.

Brandon Dart”s comments followed reports suggesting that the Giants might consider drafting Fernando Mendoza, a quarterback who recently won the Heisman Trophy, should they receive a high pick in the upcoming draft. Despite these speculations, Jaxson Dart remained unfazed, asserting his confidence in his abilities and the future of the team. “I”m going to continue to play my ball,” he said after the game. “We have a bright future.”

Jaxson Dart took over as the Giants” starting quarterback in Week 4 of his rookie season after being selected in the first round of the 2025 Draft from Ole Miss. Despite facing challenges, including injuries to key teammates, Dart managed to throw 13 touchdowns against five interceptions, achieving a completion percentage of 63.2.
