Raheem Blackshear Joins New York Jets Practice Squad After Steelers Release

Running back Raheem Blackshear has officially joined the practice squad of the New York Jets. This development follows his release from the Pittsburgh Steelers on October 28. The signing reflects the Jets” assessment of Blackshear”s potential after he has participated in tryouts with multiple teams since his departure from Pittsburgh.

Blackshear, who gained recognition during his tenure with the Carolina Panthers, has an impressive college background as a standout player at Archbishop Wood in Warminster, Pennsylvania. The Steelers initially signed him to address concerns regarding their kick return position, where rookie Kaleb Johnson has struggled. Over his career, Blackshear has recorded 52 carries for 203 yards and three touchdowns across 41 NFL games. Additionally, he has accumulated 66 career kick returns and 23 career punt returns during his time in the league.

Entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Virginia Tech in the 2022 NFL Draft, Blackshear began his professional career with the Buffalo Bills before being picked up by the Panthers. He played with Carolina from 2022 to 2024 before spending the current season with the Tennessee Titans.

Now with the Jets, Blackshear has an opportunity to demonstrate his skills during the final week of the season. His performance could pave the way for a future contract with the team and a chance to secure a spot on the roster as they prepare for the 2026 offseason.
