Tennessee WR Amari Jefferson to Enter NCAA Transfer Portal

The NCAA College Football Transfer Portal officially opens today, and Tennessee Volunteers wide receiver Amari Jefferson has announced his intention to enter. As schools prepare for a busy transfer window lasting until January 16, Tennessee expects several players to follow suit, with reports indicating that around ten athletes are considering the portal.

This news comes at a time when Tennessee is already one of the youngest teams in the SEC and nationwide. Jefferson, who has four years of eligibility remaining, has a noteworthy background. He graduated from Baylor School in Chattanooga, excelling in both football and baseball.

Initially, Jefferson committed to play baseball under coach Tony Vitello before shifting his focus to football, where he was recruited by Nick Saban at Alabama. However, after transferring to Tennessee, Jefferson struggled with injuries that hindered his performance. Fans and coaches alike never had the chance to see his full potential when healthy.

The departure of Vitello, who is no longer the head coach of the baseball program, may have influenced Jefferson”s decision to enter the portal. Although it remains unclear if he seeks to pursue opportunities in both sports, many speculate that this dual-sport possibility is still a priority for him.

With the expected return of starters such as Mike Matthews and Braylor Staley, along with the emergence of promising freshmen and the addition of Tristen Keys from the 2026 class, the depth at the wide receiver position further complicates Jefferson”s situation.
