Cal Kicker Abram Murray to Enter Transfer Portal Following Season

Abram Murray, the place-kicker for the California Golden Bears, has declared his intention to enter the transfer portal. This announcement was made via social media on Thursday, a day before the portal officially opens on January 2.

This past season, Murray shared place-kicking duties with teammate Chase Meyer. He primarily handled long field-goal attempts and kickoffs when healthy. Despite facing injury setbacks that caused him to miss several games, Murray showcased his abilities by successfully converting four out of six field-goal attempts, all from distances between 40 and 49 yards, with a longest of 49 yards.

In contrast, Meyer was responsible for shorter field goals, achieving a successful rate of 10 out of 13 attempts, with his longest also reaching 45 yards. Meyer, who transferred to Cal from Miami after the 2024 season, still has another year of eligibility remaining as a redshirt junior.

Murray joined the Bears after transferring from Penn State and has three years of eligibility left as he was a redshirt freshman this past season. The transfer portal allows players to officially declare their desire to switch teams until January 15, with the ability to sign with a new team at any time thereafter.

The Golden Bears are expected to be active in the transfer portal in the coming weeks, as they look to fill important roster spots. New head coach Tosh Lupoi is currently focused on his role as the defensive coordinator for Oregon, which is still competing in the College Football Playoff. Oregon recently triumphed over Texas Tech in the quarterfinals and will face top-seeded Indiana in the semifinals on January 9.

Other players from Cal, including linebacker Luke Ferrelli and defensive lineman Nate Burrell, have also announced their intentions to enter the transfer portal. This trend reflects the increasing movement of athletes seeking new opportunities in college football.
