Dolphins Explore Coaching Options, Contact John Harbaugh

According to NFL Insider Josina Anderson, the Miami Dolphins have initiated communication with John Harbaugh. Although Mike McDaniel currently holds the position of head coach, the team has remained silent regarding his status following the conclusion of the season.

Since the Dolphins” season ended, there has been widespread speculation about McDaniel”s future with the team. Many believe the organization is biding its time to evaluate potential coaching candidates available on the market. If a coach, such as Harbaugh, becomes available and is viewed favorably, the Dolphins may consider parting ways with McDaniel.

The Dolphins have not employed a coach with Harbaugh”s credentials since the eras of Don Shula and Jimmy Johnson. Securing someone of Harbaugh”s caliber would be a significant achievement for team owner Stephen Ross. Nearly two decades ago, when Ross acquired the franchise, he attempted to recruit Harbaugh”s brother, Jim Harbaugh. However, that effort was complicated by his failure to dismiss then-coach Tony Sparano, leading to a negative media reaction.

As of now, McDaniel”s position has been precarious, especially following two consecutive losing seasons. The Dolphins are in the midst of restructuring their front office and scouting department, highlighted by the hiring of a new general manager. If Miami hopes to attract Harbaugh, they may need to offer him significant authority, including input on the next general manager and complete control over the 53-man roster. This might be a small price for Ross and the Dolphins, considering the franchise has not won a playoff game in 25 years, rendering them largely irrelevant in the league.

More details on this evolving situation will be reported as they become available.
