Jason Kelce Discusses Kevin Patullo”s Firing and Eagles” Future Needs

Jason Kelce recently shared his thoughts on the firing of Kevin Patullo, the former offensive coordinator of the Eagles. On the latest episode of the “New Heights” podcast, he highlighted the need for the team to seek a “proven” replacement to lead their offense moving forward.

Kelce, who has a long history with the Eagles, having played under Patullo when he served as the team”s passing game coordinator starting in 2021, expressed his respect for Patullo but did not shy away from discussing the shortcomings of the offense this past season. He stated, “The expectations should be much higher than what they put out this season.” He acknowledged that while he cares for Patullo, the offensive performance was simply not acceptable.

Kelce pointed out that the regression of the offense was largely due to issues within the run game and the offensive line”s inability to maintain health and create necessary openings. He remarked, “The bottom line is this offense didn”t live up to what it should have.” While acknowledging Patullo”s accountability as the offensive coordinator, Kelce insisted that the players also share in the responsibility for the disappointing results.

The Eagles” decision to part ways with Patullo came swiftly after their season-ending loss to the 49ers, and Kelce emphasized that the team must now take serious steps to improve. “It would probably behoove the Eagles to bring in somebody with a fresh perspective on where it”s at currently,” he noted, suggesting that a new voice could inspire innovative strategies to maximize the existing talent on the roster.

Kelce also reflected positively on the Eagles” defense, praising Vic Fangio and his crew for their performance. He stated, “Defensively, they played great. If you look at the difference between their pay, I think it”s the lowest-paid defense in the NFL, and their production, it is absolutely insane.” This recognition of the defense contrasts sharply with the struggles faced by the offense throughout the season.

As the Eagles look ahead, the focus will be on finding a capable offensive coordinator who can revitalize the team”s strategy and performance in the upcoming season.
