In an active offseason, the LSU Tigers are eyeing Sterling Berkhalter, a wide receiver from the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, who has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. This follows the recent signing of nine wide receivers for the upcoming season, signaling a major effort by head coach Lane Kiffin to bolster the team”s roster.
Berkhalter initially signed with the North Carolina A&T Aggies during the 2021 Recruiting Cycle. He spent two seasons at the school, where he had a breakout sophomore year, totaling 28 receptions for 414 yards and two touchdowns. After his time at North Carolina A&T, the 6-foot-3, 203-pound receiver transferred to the Cincinnati Bearcats, where he redshirted his first year before contributing in subsequent seasons.
During the 2025 season, Berkhalter transferred to Wake Forest, achieving his most productive year with 30 receptions for 416 yards and two touchdowns. Now seeking a new program for his final year of eligibility, Berkhalter has attracted interest from multiple schools, including LSU.
On Thursday, Berkhalter visited Baton Rouge to meet with Kiffin and the Tigers. This visit was first reported by 104.5 ESPN. LSU”s roster has already seen an influx of talent, having added nine players through the Transfer Portal, along with three new recruits from the 2026 Recruiting Cycle. The new additions include:
- Tre Brown – 6″2, 180 pounds – Old Dominion Monarchs
- Eugene “Tre” Wilson – 5″10, 194 pounds – Florida Gators
- Malik Elzy – 6″2, 225 pounds – Illinois Fighting Illini
- Winston Watkins – 6″2, 185 pounds – Ole Miss Rebels
Under Kiffin”s leadership, LSU has assembled the top-rated Transfer Portal class in the nation, showcasing a commitment to rebuilding the program. Kiffin expressed his ambitions at his introductory press conference, stating, “This place is built for championships with championship expectations. We understand that, but as an elite competitor, that”s exactly what you want, and that”s why we”re here.” He emphasized the rich tradition of success at LSU, aiming to restore the program to its former glory.
As the Tigers continue to enhance their roster, Berkhalter”s potential addition could further solidify their offensive capabilities heading into the new season.
