Bills Activate Ed Oliver and Curtis Samuel for Matchup Against Broncos

The Buffalo Bills have made significant roster moves ahead of their divisional round game against the Denver Broncos. On Friday, the team activated defensive tackle Ed Oliver and wide receiver Curtis Samuel from injured reserve, providing a much-needed boost to the squad.

Oliver and Samuel returned to practice this week, which paved the way for their activation. In addition, wide receiver Mecole Hardman Jr. and running back Frank Gore Jr. were elevated from the practice squad to fill out the roster. Running back Ty Johnson, who missed the previous game, is listed as questionable due to an ankle injury.

The Bills previously had two roster spots open after placing receivers Tyrell Shavers and Gabe Davis on injured reserve due to torn ACLs suffered during last weekend”s victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. With Samuel, who has been dealing with an elbow injury, and Hardman joining the active roster, the Bills now have five receivers available for the matchup on Saturday, alongside Khalil Shakir, Brandin Cooks, and Keon Coleman.

Oliver”s return is especially crucial for a defensive tackle group that has faced numerous injuries throughout the season. The seven-year veteran was placed on injured reserve on October 28 due to a left biceps tear that required surgery. While rehabbing, he also suffered meniscus damage, necessitating a minimally invasive procedure on December 29.

“It”s just a long time coming,” Oliver expressed regarding his return to practice. “I kind of just stayed the course even when the tunnel seemed dark and the light at the end of the tunnel seemed so far away.”

This season, Oliver has participated in three games and recorded three sacks along with a forced fumble before his injuries sidelined him. Coach Sean McDermott praised Oliver”s dedication, stating, ” loves to play. There”s a process that leads to playing, and he”s worked hard at it. Had the setback, obviously, a few weeks ago with the knee, but he”s attacked it head-on, and our medical staff the same way. So, both have done a good job.”

Oliver mentioned this week that he feels “kind of fresh,” particularly compared to other players, after spending significant time on the sidelines.

As for Samuel, this game will mark his return to action for the first time since November 16. The Bills will be without cornerback Maxwell Hairston, who is ruled out due to an ankle injury, and safety Jordan Poyer, who is dealing with a hamstring issue. Linebacker Terrel Bernard is also listed as questionable with a calf injury.
