The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are set to hire Zac Robinson as their new offensive coordinator, according to a source familiar with the decision who spoke to The Associated Press on Thursday. The individual requested anonymity as the contract is still being finalized.
Robinson comes to the Buccaneers after spending the last two seasons as the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons. Prior to that, he was the pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Los Angeles Rams, where he had a significant role during Baker Mayfield“s brief tenure as a starter in 2022.
This marks the fifth different offensive coordinator for Tampa Bay in as many years, following a turbulent period that began with the dismissal of Byron Leftwich after the 2022 season. Dave Canales, who aided Mayfield in revitalizing his career in 2023, subsequently took the head coaching position with the Carolina Panthers.
In 2024, Mayfield enjoyed his most successful season under Liam Coen, who has since moved on to become the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Last season, the Buccaneers struggled offensively under Josh Grizzard, finishing with an 8-9 record, leading to his termination after just one year.
Robinson”s time with the Falcons saw his offenses rank sixth in total yards in 2024 and 14th the following season. In terms of scoring, Atlanta was 13th in points during 2024, but dropped to 24th in the subsequent year. He had the opportunity to work with quarterbacks such as Michael Penix Jr. and veteran Kirk Cousins during his coaching career.
The Buccaneers” offensive performance has seen a significant decline, dropping from third overall in yards in 2024 to 21st in 2025. In 2024, they were among the top five in rushing, passing, and scoring but closed 2025 ranked 21st in rushing, 20th in passing, and 18th in scoring.
As the Buccaneers move forward, they will be looking to Robinson to revitalize their offensive strategy and regain their competitive edge in the league.
