After a heartbreaking loss in the NFC Championship Game, Matthew Stafford has chosen to remain tight-lipped about his future in the NFL. Stafford, who is set to turn 38, had one of the finest seasons of his career in 2025, leading the Los Angeles Rams to the brink of another Super Bowl appearance.
Last year, Stafford was linked to the New York Giants as he sought a contract extension. Ultimately, he opted to stay with the Rams, signing a restructured two-year deal that proved beneficial for Sean McVay“s squad. The decision paid off, with Stafford delivering exceptional performances throughout the season.
In the NFC Championship loss, Stafford was impressive, completing 22 of 35 passes for 374 yards and three touchdowns, showcasing his skill even in defeat. Throughout the season, he posted a completion rate of 65.0 percent, accumulating 4,707 yards, 46 touchdowns, and just eight interceptions. His dominance in the league was evident as he led in several key categories, including passing yards, touchdown passes, and first downs, earning him a first-team All-Pro selection for the first time in his career. He is currently a strong contender for the league”s MVP award.
Despite these achievements, Stafford is cautious about making any commitments regarding his future as he navigates the challenges of aging and injuries. “I can”t generalize six months of my life ten minutes after a loss,” Stafford stated, as reported by Arash Markazi of The Sporting Tribune. “I appreciate the guys in this locker room. It was a whole hell of a lot, everybody that helped me and helped our team be as successful as we were this year. That”s all I”ll answer for you.”
With one year remaining on his current contract and a potential exit option looming, Stafford has certainly earned the right to continue his career if he chooses to do so. His performance this season has demonstrated that while he may not be getting younger, his capabilities on the field continue to flourish.
