Julia Rose, the 2025 AL.com Ms. Football, has officially committed to the University of North Alabama to play flag football. This marks a significant step as UNA prepares to launch its inaugural flag football team this fall. Rose, who has set numerous records while playing as the quarterback for Vestavia Hills High School, chose UNA over Wingate University in North Carolina.
“I toured both campuses over the MLK weekend,” Rose shared. “UNA felt more like home and more comfortable for me. A big piece of my decision was the fact that my parents have given me every opportunity they can, and the biggest reward I could give them would be for them to see me play closer to home.” At 5-foot-10, Rose had an impressive senior season, throwing for over 7,100 yards and 122 touchdowns, leading her team to the state championship game where they faced an undefeated Central-Phenix City.
Throughout her high school career, she accumulated more than 12,000 passing yards, guiding Vestavia Hills to an outstanding record of 68-6 over four seasons, including a 28-2 finish in 2025. While UNA is still in the process of selecting its first head football coach, Rose expressed confidence in her decision to sign despite the uncertainty. “I think they are down to three candidates,” she noted, “and they are bringing them in for interviews this week. It has been a thought signing without knowing the head coach, but I started my senior season without a coach, and that was one of the biggest reasons we were so successful. Coach Daniel Davis pushed us in the direction we needed, so I”m putting my trust in who UNA is bringing in.”
In related news, the first AL.com Ms. Football award was given to Gerritt Griggs, the quarterback from Central-Phenix City, who has signed to play softball at the University of Alabama.
As the flag football landscape continues to evolve in Alabama, Rose”s commitment to North Alabama signifies a promising future for the sport at the collegiate level.
