Scott High School Appoints Dustin Trimnell as New Football Coach

Scott High School in Taylor Mill has officially appointed Dustin Trimnell as the new head coach of its football program. Trimnell, who previously served as the defensive coordinator at Bellevue under coach Chad Montgomery, is stepping into a role that has seen four different coaches since 2022.

Trimnell expressed his excitement about taking the helm, stating, “It”s hard to put into words. It”s something when you”re a young coach you dream about. Everything starts to set in, and now it”s my turn to do things that I say I always thought I could do.”

As he assumes this position, the Eagles are in search of stability, aiming to improve upon their recent struggles. Casey Fisk, the Eagles” Athletic Director, shared his enthusiasm for Trimnell”s arrival, noting, “Dustin brings a lot of energy to the program. He is excited to get working with the team. His motivation is infectious.” The players are set to begin training under Trimnell starting Tuesday.

Trimnell”s coaching style is expected to shift the team”s strategy, particularly with his defensive background. Unlike the previous two seasons under coach Justin Franklin, when the team played at a fast tempo, Trimnell plans to adopt a more measured approach. “The goal is to surround myself with a staff that can bring in a mentality of doing things differently,” he stated. “We”ll grind out the clock, play good defense, and put ourselves in the best chances to win. We can”t get into shootouts with the teams we play. We”ll slow it down and do things in an exciting way.”

Under Trimnell”s guidance, the Eagles are poised to become more defensively focused. Last season, he led the Bellevue defense, which excelled in takeaways, leading Class A with 32 turnovers in just 11 games. Trimnell is also a social studies teacher at Prince of Peace School, where he intends to hold a parent meeting to foster community relations.

Addressing the need for continuity, Trimnell acknowledged the challenges ahead, saying, “Stability will be the toughest battle. Football is football; the biggest hurdle starting is convincing these kids and families that I am here for the long haul.” To demonstrate his commitment, he proactively reached out to every parent of freshmen to juniors to invite them to a meet and greet.

Last season, Scott High School finished with a record of 3-7, marking the third consecutive year they missed the playoffs. Since their realignment to Class 5A and the 6th District, they have recorded 11 wins against 30 losses over the last four seasons, with only one playoff appearance. In contrast, while they were in Class 4A from 2015 to 2021, they achieved a record of 44-36, securing eight playoff victories.

Trimnell emphasized the importance of effort, attitude, and toughness, stating, “Some things we can”t control, but we can control that.” As he embarks on this new chapter, the community and players alike are eager to see how his leadership will shape the future of the Eagles” football program.
