The San Francisco 49ers are set to compete against the Los Angeles Rams in a historic NFL matchup in Australia, marking the league”s first regular-season game in the country. This significant event will take place later this year at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
This game is part of the NFL”s initiative to expand its global presence, featuring a record-breaking nine international games in the 2026 season, which will also include contests in London, Paris, Madrid, Munich, Mexico City, and Rio de Janeiro.
“We are thrilled to have the San Francisco 49ers go up against the Los Angeles Rams,” said Charlotte Offord, the general manager for NFL Australia & New Zealand. “The 49ers enjoy a strong following in Australia, and this rivalry matchup promises to deliver an unforgettable NFL experience for our fans in Down Under.”
In the previous season, the Rams and 49ers faced off twice, with each team winning one game on the road. “We are excited to bring our annual game against our NFC West rival, the San Francisco 49ers, to the MCG,” commented Kevin Demoff, president of the Los Angeles Rams.
Both teams finished the last season with a record of 12-5 but were eliminated by Seattle in the playoffs. “This is a fantastic opportunity to further support the league”s efforts to grow the game,” stated Al Guido, CEO of the San Francisco 49ers.
