Eagles Safety Reed Blankenship Open to Joining Cowboys with Christian Parker

The Dallas Cowboys have tapped into their NFC East rivals, hiring Christian Parker as their new defensive coordinator from the Philadelphia Eagles. Parker, who brings an impressive track record including a recent victory in Super Bowl LIX, is already working to address the Cowboys” defensive needs.

With several vacancies in their defensive staff, the Cowboys are actively planning for both free agency and the upcoming NFL Draft. The team faces challenges across various positions, especially in the defensive backfield and at defensive end, highlighting the need for talented additions.

Given Parker”s background in coaching defensive backs and his established connections in Philadelphia, it is likely he will leverage those relationships to bolster the Cowboys” roster. One potential target is Reed Blankenship, the Eagles” starting safety who is set to enter free agency this offseason.

Blankenship is currently on the West Coast with other NFL players, preparing for a notable game between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks. During his time there, he expressed his admiration for Parker, emphasizing the impact he had on the Eagles” defensive backs.

“He is obviously well known now,” Blankenship remarked to USA Today”s Madison Tenenbaum. “He helped build our room, especially, and what he brings to the table coaching-wise and just as a person. I mean, he”s got it all so he”s going to do great regardless of where he”s at, but nah, he”s going to do great for sure.”

As Blankenship prepares to enter free agency, he has not dismissed the idea of following Parker to Dallas. The Eagles are facing financial constraints and may struggle to offer him a new contract after he earned $3.575 million last season.

“That”s another story. I don”t know. We”ll cross that bridge when we get there,” Blankenship noted. “I”m still a Philadelphia Eagle until I”m not anymore, so we”ll cross that bridge when we get there.”

Blankenship, who joined the Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2022, has made a significant impact during his four years with the team. He has played in 56 games, starting 50, and has amassed 308 tackles, three tackles for loss, one forced fumble, three fumble recoveries, 23 pass deflections, and nine interceptions. As a 26-year-old, he will be one of the most attractive safeties available in the upcoming free agency period.
