A potential reunion between Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy seems to be becoming more plausible as the veteran quarterback considers his future. Reports from NFL Media indicate that the likelihood of Rodgers returning to the Pittsburgh Steelers for another season is increasing.
Following McCarthy”s hiring by the Steelers in January, Rodgers has reportedly engaged in multiple discussions with him. Additionally, Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf has made attempts to persuade the quarterback to come back to Pittsburgh. The duo previously enjoyed a successful relationship during their thirteen seasons together with the Green Bay Packers, where Rodgers established himself as one of the elite quarterbacks, securing a Super Bowl title and two of his four MVP awards under McCarthy”s leadership.
When he joined the Steelers last offseason, the 42-year-old quarterback suggested that the 2025 season would likely be his last. However, as the season unfolded, he adopted a more ambiguous stance regarding his future. After the Steelers clinched the AFC North but faced a disappointing wild-card round defeat against the Houston Texans in January, Rodgers stated, “I”m not going to make any emotional decisions at this point. It was such a fun year… Been a great year overall in my life, and this has been a really good part of that, coming here and being a part of this team. It”s disappointing to be sitting here with the season over.”
Rodgers had a respectable performance in 2025, completing 65.7% of his passes for 3,322 yards, alongside 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions, yielding a passer rating of 94.8. He also recorded a rushing touchdown during the season. This marks the third consecutive offseason filled with quarterback uncertainty for the Steelers, as they have cycled through Kenny Pickett, Justin Fields, Russell Wilson, and now potentially Rodgers.
Aside from Rodgers, the Steelers currently lack a strong starting quarterback option, with only journeyman Mason Rudolph and 2025 sixth-round pick Will Howard remaining on the roster. As the offseason progresses, the situation at quarterback remains a pivotal focus for the franchise.
