In a significant move for high school football in Kansas, Hutchinson High School announced the hiring of Luke Berblinger as its new head football coach on Monday. This announcement came via a post on social media, marking an exciting chapter for the Salthawks.
Berblinger has spent the past seven seasons as an assistant at Southeast Missouri State University, where he coached tight ends and specialists. Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Berblinger stated, “Back in Reno County! I couldn”t be more excited for the opportunity to be the Head Football Coach at Hutchinson High School. This is the community that raised me and Baylee, and we”re beyond grateful that we get to raise our family here as well.”
Prior to his coaching career, Berblinger played four seasons at Emporia State University from 2014 to 2017. He also served as a student assistant, focusing on slotbacks and strength and conditioning for two years during his time there.
Taking over a program that recently enjoyed a successful 7-3 season, Berblinger aims to build on the achievements of the Salthawks, who reached the regional round of the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) Class 5A playoffs before losing to Hays with a score of 27-6. In recent years, Hutchinson has maintained a solid record, having won seven or more games in each of the last four seasons. Their last losing record occurred in 2021 when they finished at 4-5.
According to the final Kansas 2025 High School Football Massey Rankings, Hutchinson finished as the No. 43 team in the state. The Salthawks are now looking to Berblinger to lead them into a new era of success on the field.
