The excitement is palpable as the Seattle Seahawks, fresh off their Super Bowl triumph, prepare to parade through downtown Seattle. This highly anticipated victory celebration is expected to attract more than a million fans, known as the “12s,” from all over the country.
In light of the expected turnout, the Seattle Police Department is implementing comprehensive safety measures to ensure a secure environment for everyone involved. Detective Eric Muñoz, the department”s public information officer, emphasized that the police force will adopt an “all-hands-on-deck” strategy, deploying every available officer on duty. The department is collaborating with various agencies, including the King County Sheriff”s Office and the Washington State Patrol, to enhance public safety during the festivities.
To further bolster security, the city has engaged the Meridian Rapid Defense Group to install heavy steel barriers along 4th Avenue. Weighing 700 pounds each, these barriers will help separate the crowds from traffic, replacing traditional concrete barricades, trucks, and police vehicles. Installation of these barriers is set to begin at 6 a.m. on parade day.
Authorities are strongly advising parade attendees to utilize public transportation rather than driving. Additionally, for those who own firearms, police are urging them to leave their weapons at home to prevent any potential theft or misuse. Detective Muñoz stated, “We don”t want anybody to have their guns stolen, and of course, we don”t want those stolen guns used in any other crimes by something that”s very, very preventable.”
While the police focus on security, they encourage fans to celebrate responsibly. Muñoz noted, “Just find a police officer if you need any type of assistance, whether it”s medical or crime related. We are here for you.” With such a massive gathering anticipated, officials recommend arriving early in downtown Seattle to secure a good viewing spot.
