The Los Angeles Rams have yet to appoint an offensive coordinator, making them the last team in the NFL to do so after the departure of Mike LaFleur. It has been over two weeks since the Arizona Cardinals hired LaFleur as their new head coach, taking him from Sean McVay“s staff in Los Angeles. McVay has not conducted any interviews for the vacant offensive coordinator role, which has drawn attention given that no other team has taken as long to find a replacement.
As reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN, every other team in the league has successfully filled their offensive coordinator position, leaving the Rams as the sole team still searching. Currently, there are no clear candidates for LaFleur”s former role on McVay”s staff.
This offseason has seen a flurry of changes in offensive coordinator positions across the league. The updated list shows the Rams trailing behind all other teams in this regard. While the Rams are reportedly considering bringing in Kliff Kingsbury for an unspecified role within their coaching staff, it does not appear he is being considered for the offensive coordinator position. Another potential candidate, Nate Scheelhaase, who has interviewed for several head coaching roles, seems like a natural fit to replace LaFleur, but there has been no indication of movement on that front either.
As the Rams continue their search for an offensive coordinator, they are not under pressure to make a quick decision since all other teams have already appointed their coordinators. It is possible that McVay is favoring Scheelhaase for the role but is also exploring options outside the organization, a strategy he has employed in the past when filling coaching vacancies.
Until the Rams finalize their offensive coordinator choice, speculation will persist regarding who will ultimately take the reins of their offense moving forward.
