Steelers Eye Tyreek Hill After Dolphins Release Star Receiver

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a new potential target on the free agent market with the release of wide receiver Tyreek Hill by the Miami Dolphins. This development came after Hill suffered a serious knee injury in September, which had previously positioned him as a trade candidate for the Steelers.

Hill”s release included a failed physical designation, indicating that his knee is not in optimal condition more than four months after his injury. Following surgery, he tore multiple ligaments, including his ACL. According to his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, Hill is making progress in his recovery and is committed to returning to the field.

Before the injury, Hill was under investigation by the NFL regarding a domestic violence incident involving his ex-wife, which raises the possibility of a suspension in addition to his physical concerns. His performance has noticeably declined; in the 2024 season, he recorded just 959 receiving yards over 17 games, a significant drop from the 1,700 yards he achieved in 2023 when he earned a Pro Bowl selection.

As teams assess the risk associated with signing Hill, they will need to consider both his recent injury history and the potential for league disciplinary action. The Steelers, looking to bolster their receiving corps, may find the prospect of adding a once elite talent like Hill appealing, but they must proceed with caution given the circumstances.
