Top 2027 Quarterback Israel Abrams Plans Official Visits to Five Colleges

A highly regarded high school quarterback, Israel Abrams, has outlined his upcoming official visits to five major college football programs, surprising many with his choices. Typically, elite quarterbacks target the most prominent schools, but Abrams is taking a different approach, aiming to contribute to programs in rebuilding phases.

Ranked among the top quarterbacks in the 2027 recruiting class, Israel Abrams is second according to 247sports and third by On3/Rivals. Both rankings label him as a high four-star prospect and place him among the top 50 players nationally. Recent insights from On3sports indicate that Auburn and Purdue are the frontrunners for his commitment, and both schools will host him for official visits.

Auburn is embarking on a rebuilding journey under new head coach Alex Golesh, formerly of South Florida, while Purdue is in the midst of its own turnaround under Barry Odom, who transitioned from Missouri. Abrams” intention to help cultivate a new culture at these programs is evident in his choices.

Another notable inclusion on Abrams” visit list is Kentucky, which is also undergoing a transformation with Will Stein, the former offensive coordinator at Oregon, now at the helm. Although the Wildcats have recently added Notre Dame transfer Kenny Minchey for the upcoming season, Abrams appears to be seriously considering Kentucky as a potential future home.

The final two schools on Abrams” official visit list align more closely with traditional college football powerhouses. Tennessee, which reached the College Football Playoff in 2024, experienced a downturn in 2025. Josh Heupel”s squad is currently navigating a quarterback transition, with the eligibility of Joey Aguilar being a point of contention. Meanwhile, Florida State seemed to regain elite status under Mike Norvell in 2023, finishing with a 13-1 record, but has since struggled, posting a 7-17 record in the subsequent seasons. The Seminoles have faced challenges with transfer quarterbacks, as evidenced by the difficulties encountered by both DJ Uiagalelei and Tommy Castellanos in establishing effective passing games.

Abrams” visit schedule kicks off with a trip to Purdue on May 22, followed by Auburn on June 5. He will visit Florida State and Kentucky on the next two weekends, while the date for his Tennessee visit remains unconfirmed. Currently, experts from On3 favor Auburn as the likely destination for Abrams, but he has ample time to weigh his options before making a decision.
