Former Florida Gators QB Justin Midgett Named Head Coach at Island Coast High School

A former quarterback for the Florida Gators has been appointed as the head football coach at Island Coast High School in Florida. Justin Midgett announced via social media that he has accepted the coaching position at Island Coast. Midgett played as a redshirt quarterback at the University of Florida during the 2003 and 2004 seasons.

“Excited to announce that I have accepted the Head Football Coaching position at Island Coast High School. Let”s get to work,” Midgett stated in his post on X, previously known as Twitter.

During his high school career, Midgett was recognized as one of the top quarterbacks in the nation, earning a first-team all-state selection in Class 4A. In his senior year at Charlotte High School in Punta Gorda, Florida, he threw for 2,489 yards and 21 touchdowns, leading the Fighting Tarpons to the state semifinals in 2002. His junior season in 2001 saw him pass for 1,653 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Now, Midgett faces the challenge of revitalizing an Island Coast football program that has struggled in recent years. The team has managed to finish above .500 only once since 2014, when they ended the 2020 season with a 6-4 record. Prior to that, the Gators experienced a successful run in 2014, finishing with a 10-3 record. Over the last eleven seasons, Island Coast has concluded ten of those years with a losing record, including three seasons with only one victory. The recent season ended with a disappointing 1-9 record, placing the team at No. 480 in the state according to the final 2025 Florida High School Football Massey Rankings.
