Byron Lady Tigers Capture 2A Sectional Championship with Strong Second Half

The Byron Lady Tigers showcased their resilience by dominating the second half to clinch the 2A sectional championship with a decisive 60-36 win against Port Byron Riverdale on Thursday night in Mendota.

Despite a challenging first half marked by poor shooting, the Lady Tigers” defense remained stellar throughout the game. Only leading 25-20 at the halftime break, the team significantly stepped up their offensive game after the intermission. Key contributions came from Malia Morton and Aubrie Fuller, who managed to hit a few three-pointers to provide some early momentum.

As the third quarter unfolded, Byron”s offense began to find its rhythm, frequently converting on fast breaks after forcing turnovers. This surge allowed the Lady Tigers to outscore Riverdale 20-5 during the quarter, extending their lead to 45-25 heading into the final period.

Macy Groharing was instrumental in the victory, leading all scorers with 27 points, while Morton added 15 points to the tally. With this win, Byron improved their season record to an impressive 31-2.
