Titans Coach Robert Saleh Discusses Will Levis” Future with Team

The current situation for the Tennessee Titans quarterback position has shifted, particularly with the recent addition of Cam Ward, the first overall pick in the 2025 draft. This development has somewhat overshadowed Will Levis, the Titans” second-round pick in 2023, who has faced challenges including a season-ending shoulder surgery last summer. Many observers speculated that this injury might signal the end of Levis” tenure with the Titans.

However, Robert Saleh, the newly appointed head coach of the Titans, recently expressed optimism about Levis” future in a conversation with reporters at the NFL scouting combine. Saleh noted, “I just met him, I had a really good conversation with him the other day. My one exposure to him was back in “24, played him in Week 2. I do think he”s got tremendous talent, tremendous size, tremendous arm strength.” He added that he is excited to work with Levis and encouraged him to “attack this offseason, have the best offseason of your life and compete your butt off and let”s see what happens.”

Levis had a rough season in 2024, which saw him benched in December due to subpar performances. He concluded the regular season ranked last among qualified quarterbacks with a 25.2 adjusted QBR and an 81.4 passer rating, according to Pro Football Reference. As he enters the final year of his rookie contract, it”s evident that his trade value is limited. Nonetheless, Saleh”s comments suggest that the coaching staff may still see potential in him.

Furthermore, considering Ward”s recovery from an AC joint sprain in his throwing shoulder, retaining a backup quarterback who is familiar with the Titans” offensive dynamics could be a strategic move. Saleh emphasized the importance of having a reliable backup, stating, “You”re looking for a guy who can come in and win football games for you if something happens to the starter. A guy who”s going to be a tremendous — who”s going to support the starter, who is going to support his team, who will prepare like a starter. So you”re really looking for another starter.”

Despite his career record of 5-16 as a starter, Levis may serve as a valuable insurance policy for the Titans if Ward”s recovery does not go as planned. The upcoming offseason will be crucial for him as he seeks to solidify his role within the team.
