Oregon Ducks Challenge Texas Tech for Five-Star Recruit Jalen Brewster

The Oregon Ducks are making a strong push to recruit five-star defensive lineman Jalen Brewster, who is currently committed to the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Although Brewster has reiterated his commitment to Texas Tech, he has expressed a willingness to explore other options, keeping the Ducks in the mix along with Miami, Indiana, and Ohio State.

Brewster, ranked as the No. 8 recruit nationally and the top defensive lineman according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, has a significant interest in Oregon. The recent news of former Texas Tech defensive line coach Zarnell Fitch returning to the program has reignited Oregon”s efforts to secure Brewster”s commitment.

Despite his ties to Texas Tech, Brewster has maintained a relationship with Oregon”s defensive line coach, Tony Tuioti. “Knowing the connections we”ve been having, they”re still strong. Coach T, that”s my dog,” Brewster stated. Tuioti has been instrumental in developing a solid defensive unit at Oregon, which ranked seventh nationally in 2025, allowing an average of 273.7 yards per game.

While Texas Tech boasted the third-ranked defense in the nation that year, the return of Tuioti could be a game-changer in Brewster”s recruitment. Along with a strong defense, Oregon”s team culture is appealing, as all four defensive line starters are set to return for the next season. This continuity could attract top recruits like Brewster, who could see a bright future in Oregon.

Oregon”s defensive linemen, including Matayo Uiagalelei, Teitum Tuioti, Bear Alexander, and A”Mauri Washington, all have the potential to elevate their draft stock by returning for another season. Their decision to stay further demonstrates their commitment to the program, which may influence future recruits.

If Oregon successfully flips Brewster”s commitment, it could establish a formidable defensive line for years to come. Under coach Dan Lanning, Oregon has emerged as a top contender in recruiting, already securing five commitments for the 2027 class, including four-star defensive lineman Cameron Pritchett.

The Ducks have also pulled in prospects from Texas, having recently received a commitment from four-star running back Cadarius McMiller. Additionally, they signed five-star wide receiver Jalen Lott, who ranks as the No. 3 prospect in Texas. Currently, Oregon”s recruiting class sits at No. 13 in the nation and No. 4 in the Big Ten according to Rivals Industry Comparison.

Securing Brewster”s commitment would not only enhance Oregon”s recruiting efforts but also position them for a top-five class for the fourth consecutive year.
