Kyler Murray to Be Released by Arizona Cardinals, Shaking Up Quarterback Market

Kyler Murray has officially concluded his tenure with the Arizona Cardinals. The veteran quarterback announced via social media that he will be released when the new league year commences on March 11. In his heartfelt message, Murray expressed gratitude to those who supported him during his time in Arizona, stating, “To everyone that supported me and showed kindness to my family and I during my time in AZ, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.” He continued, “I wanted nothing more than to be the one to end the 77-year drought for this organization, I am sorry I failed us. I wish this community and my brothers nothing but the best.”

Murray, who is no stranger to overcoming challenges, shared his readiness for the future: “I am prepared for whatever”s next. I trust in God and my work ethic. I truly believe my best ball is in front of me and I look forward to proving it. Godspeed.”

Recent reports had hinted at the possibility of Murray”s release, primarily due to his substantial guaranteed salary of $36.8 million, which had become a source of frustration for the team. Sources informed FOX Sports that both the Cardinals and Murray”s representatives had been anticipating this outcome. Last season, Murray played only five games before suffering a foot injury against the Tennessee Titans. Initially, the Cardinals believed he would return within weeks, but after backup Jacoby Brissett performed well, a quarterback controversy ensued, leading to Murray”s placement on injured reserve for the remainder of the season.

The Cardinals finished the 2022 campaign with a disappointing 3-14 record, which ultimately led to the dismissal of head coach Jonathan Gannon. Murray entered the league with high expectations after winning the Heisman Trophy at Oklahoma in 2019 and had moments of brilliance, including his memorable “Hail Murray” play in 2020, when he connected with DeAndre Hopkins for a stunning game-winning touchdown against the Buffalo Bills.

The peak of Murray”s career came in 2021 when the Cardinals soared to a 10-2 record by early December. However, the team faltered towards the season”s end, losing four of their last five games and falling to the Los Angeles Rams in the wild-card round.

The future now looks uncertain for both Murray and the Cardinals as they navigate this significant shift in their roster.
