Over 60 NFL Players Participate in “Bring The Juice” Golf Tournament in Madera

This weekend, the Dragonfly Golf Club in Madera, California, became a hub for NFL talent as over 60 active players participated in the annual “Bring The Juice” golf tournament. The event was organized by Frank Dalena, a former walk-on wide receiver at Fresno State who has transitioned into podcasting.

Dalena expressed excitement about the event, saying, “The horse races are gone from the Fresno fairgrounds, why not make this the weekend where everyone who went to the horse races is now watching golf with NFL players?” This marks the fourth year of the tournament, which has seen significant growth in participation.

The tournament included notable players such as Daron Bland, Ronnie Rivers, and Mykal Walker, along with many others who have no direct connection to Dalena. “A DM goes a long way,” he remarked, emphasizing that the focus is not solely on star players but on any player passionate about the game.

Dalena noted, “There are so many NFL players in the league that don”t get recognized as much, so I”m taking care of those guys that maybe aren”t the most known.” Players like Rasad Weaver appreciated the opportunity to be recognized, stating, “It”s cool for someone to recognize that we”re still elite guys to come out here and have a good time.”

This year”s highlight was Cam Skattebo, a running back for the New York Giants, who has ties to Dalena”s family. Skattebo wore a “Bring The Juice” hat on game day before facing the defending Super Bowl champions, showcasing his support for the event. Dalena mentioned, “Next year, he brings Jackson Dart,” indicating plans for continued growth.

The tournament featured unique attractions, including a cigar bar and a drive-through espresso martini bar. Dalena humorously noted, “Not encouraging bad behavior, but if you”ve been on a golf course, there are certain things you see often.” Additionally, a two-level bar was set up at hole 12, dubbed the “student section,” and a stadium on hole 16 allowed spectators to watch tee shots over the water.

Former Fresno State head coach Jeff Tedford shared his thoughts on the event, saying, “It”s such a fun day; you get out and enjoy the weather.” On Friday night, sponsors had the chance to bid on players such as Tedford and Marcus McMaryion to participate in the Saturday morning pro-am.

Mac Dalena, Frank”s brother, expressed pride in his sibling”s accomplishments, stating, “Frank”s my brother, but to see him do this stuff, it”s just like wow.” Proceeds from the event will benefit the Juice Foundation, which supports local youth sports programs like Madera Youth Boxing and funds an NIL program for walk-ons at Fresno State. Frank Dalena highlighted the disparities faced by walk-ons, noting, “When you”re a walk-on, you don”t always get the same meal plan as a scholarship player.”

Dalena envisions the tournament as a blend of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the Waste Management Phoenix Open, aiming to make next year”s event even larger. “Playing a round of golf with Cam Skattebo in Fresno, California, isn”t something you see every day. Creating those experiences where it”s a nice sunny day in the Valley,” he concluded.
