Sierra Canyon Boys Basketball Advances to Regional Final with Win Over Santa Margarita

In a thrilling CIF Southern California boys basketball playoff matchup, the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers secured a 72-60 victory over the Santa Margarita Eagles, advancing to the regional final. The game took place at Sierra Canyon High School in Chatsworth, California, on March 7, 2026.

Senior guard Brandon McCoy led the Trailblazers with a game-high 23 points, showcasing his skill with a spectacular windmill dunk that capped off the evening. Senior forward Maximo Adams also made headlines with a double-clutch dunk, electrifying the home crowd.

After a strong first half, Sierra Canyon went into halftime with a commanding 43-28 lead, despite facing challenges early in the game. The Eagles” senior forward Drew Anderson scored eight points in the first quarter and finished with a total of 20 points before leaving the game due to a knee injury.

McCoy”s defensive performance was also a highlight, particularly as he prevented Kaiden Bailey of Santa Margarita from scoring at the end of the third quarter. “Just trust my work,” McCoy said about his defensive intensity. “I”m trying to reach a flow state where I can just play without overthinking.” His determination was evident as he encouraged his teammates on the bench.

Despite struggling at the free-throw line, where they shot 14 of 27, Sierra Canyon managed to secure the win. Head coach Andre Chevalier acknowledged the Eagles” strong start but praised his team”s ability to regroup and find their rhythm.

Looking ahead, Sierra Canyon will face Harvard-Westlake in the regional title game on Tuesday, aiming for a chance to compete in the state championship in Sacramento. McCoy emphasized the importance of preparation, stating, “We”re just going to prepare. You know how it is, playing multiple teams multiple times. So we”re gonna forget about that, act like we never played them before.”

The Trailblazers have had success against the Wolverines earlier in the season, but McCoy insists they will approach this match with a fresh mindset, focused on executing their game plan effectively.

As the postseason progresses, Sierra Canyon looks to build on their momentum and continue their journey towards a state championship.
