The New England Patriots are reportedly one of four NFL teams showing interest in Romeo Doubs, the wide receiver from the Green Bay Packers, as he approaches free agency. After a disappointing Super Bowl run, the Patriots are poised to make significant moves in the upcoming free agency period, especially following their recent release of veteran receiver Stefon Diggs.
Despite having a solid group of receivers, including Kayshon Boutte, Mack Hollins, and Hunter Henry, New England is looking to enhance this position further. With the start of free agency just around the corner, teams will be able to make roster improvements through signings beginning on Wednesday.
Doubs has been catching passes from Jordan Love during his time in Green Bay, and a recent report from Jeremy Fowler indicates that the Patriots are closely monitoring his situation. Besides New England, the Washington Commanders, Tennessee Titans, and San Francisco 49ers are also interested in signing Doubs, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent.
The 49ers could be looking to bolster their receiving corps, especially as they face the potential loss of receivers Brandon Aiyuk and Jauan Jennings. Meanwhile, the Commanders are seeking additional support for quarterback Jayden Daniels. In Tennessee, Doubs could serve as a key asset for young quarterback Cam Ward.
Doubs, a fourth-round pick by the Packers in 2022, completed a four-year contract worth $4.34 million, which has now expired. Last season, he participated in all 17 games, recording 55 receptions for 724 yards and six touchdowns. While he missed some games during his rookie and third seasons, he has generally maintained good health and productivity. Over his career, Doubs has tallied 202 receptions for 2,424 yards and 21 touchdowns, also bringing playoff experience with four postseason appearances, including two during the 2023 playoffs.
Projections indicate that Doubs is likely to see a significant pay increase when he signs his next contract. According to Spotrac, he could be in line for a deal worth four years and $48 million from the team that ultimately secures his services.
