Purdue”s Oscar Cluff Goes Viral for Misidentifying Next Opponent”s Location

The NCAA Tournament bracket for March Madness has been announced, revealing the matchups for the competing teams. However, some players seem to lack knowledge about their upcoming opponents.

After clinching the Big Ten Championship, the Purdue Boilermakers secured the second seed in the West Region of this year”s tournament. They will face the Queens University Royals, champions of the Atlantic Sun Conference.

When interviewed about the matchup, Purdue”s center, Oscar Cluff, expressed his eagerness by saying, “Can”t wait, let”s get it going.” However, when asked for details about Queens, Cluff inaccurately stated, “It”s in New York somewhere.” The reality is that Queens University is located nearly 540 miles away in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The exchange was captured by reporter Angela Moryan, who humorously tweeted the interaction. “What do you know about Queens?” she asked. Cluff”s response led to the clarification: “It”s in Charlotte. That”s North Carolina.” The clip quickly gained traction on social media, with many amused by Cluff”s blunder.

As Cluff walked away, visibly embarrassed and with a red face, he added, “Just ready to play, ready to play whoever.” Despite the mix-up, Purdue is heavily favored to win this matchup, with ESPN giving them a 97.8 percent chance of advancing. Should Queens pull off an upset, they would become only the twelfth team in NCAA Tournament history to defeat a 2-seed as a 15-seed.

The name “Queens” pays tribute to a historic institution known as “Queen”s College,” established in 1771 in the city by the British Crown. Additionally, Charlotte is affectionately nicknamed “The Queen City,” which adds to the city”s historical significance.

As March Madness unfolds, fans will be watching closely to see if Cluff and the Boilermakers can live up to their expectations against the Royals.
