Buffalo Bills Eye Additional Weapon for Josh Allen After D.J. Moore Trade

The Buffalo Bills have made a significant move this offseason by trading for former Chicago Bears wide receiver D.J. Moore, providing quarterback Josh Allen with a top target he has needed since the departure of Stefon Diggs. This trade marks a positive step as the Bills aim to strengthen their roster under the new leadership of head coach Joe Brady. However, given their close but unfulfilled pursuit of a Super Bowl championship, general manager Brandon Beane is under pressure to add more talent around his star quarterback.

During a recent episode of “Shout! The Buffalo Football podcast,” Bills insider Ryan Talbot suggested that the team should consider signing wide receiver Jauan Jennings. Talbot noted, “I said Jauan Jennings is still sitting out there, 29 years old. Two years ago, with the 49ers, almost 1000-yard season, thought he was pretty good last year as well.” Jennings, who was a late-round draft pick, has emerged as a key player for the San Francisco 49ers over the past few seasons.

In the 2021 season, Jennings nearly reached 1,000 receiving yards and followed that up with a solid performance in the previous season, registering 55 receptions for 643 yards and nine touchdowns, despite battling injuries to his shoulder, rib, and ankle. Despite his abilities, Jennings may be facing challenges in securing a contract due to his recent injury history. Spotrac estimates that his next deal could be worth three years and approximately $67.8 million, averaging around $22.6 million annually, which could be perceived as excessive for a player with a history of injuries.

Nevertheless, the Bills currently have over $12 million in salary cap space, with potential for more through strategic post-June 1 roster moves. As the free-agent market tightens and the 49ers have shifted focus to acquiring Mike Evans, Jennings might be compelled to reassess his contract expectations, particularly with the chance to play alongside an elite quarterback like Allen.
