Utah Royals Fall to San Diego Wave 2-1 in Season Opener

The Utah Royals are yet to secure their first victory of the season after suffering a 2-1 defeat to the San Diego Wave during their home opener on Sunday.

The match began with a goal from San Diego”s Dudinha in the 18th minute, putting the Royals on the back foot early in the game. However, the Royals managed to equalize in the 67th minute when Lara Pranikar scored her first goal in the NWSL.

As the game progressed, a critical moment occurred in the 83rd minute when Tatumn Milazzo received a red card, which left Utah with only ten players on the field. This incident proved pivotal as San Diego quickly capitalized on the situation, netting the go-ahead goal shortly thereafter.

Since their return to Utah in 2024, the Royals have yet to win a match when trailing at halftime, holding an unfortunate record of 0-19 under such circumstances. Head Coach Jimmy Coenraets emphasized the importance of maintaining focus for a full 90 minutes during post-match discussions.
