Four-Star Recruit Izayah Vickers Clarifies Misquote About Florida State Visit

Izayah Vickers, a highly rated four-star high school football recruit, recently visited Florida State and found himself at the center of controversy due to a misquote regarding his experience. Following his visit, a comment on a Seminoles message board labeled his feedback as “mediocre,” prompting backlash from the fanbase.

The 2028 recruit, who is already considered one of the top prospects in his class, has garnered attention from various colleges, including Arkansas, Mississippi State, and Florida State. Vickers, a junior from Tallahassee, plays his high school football close to Doak Campbell Stadium and has visited the campus multiple times, with expectations of more visits before he makes his college decision.

During his latest visit, Vickers provided feedback that was interpreted negatively by fans. In an interview with a recruiting website, he commented on the practice”s intensity, stating, “I want to see how the coaches and players deal with the good and the bad (in future practice visits). Today was kind of, meh.” This remark was taken out of context, suggesting he was critiquing the overall program rather than just the practice on that day.

Despite the initial uproar, Vickers and his family have worked to rectify the misunderstanding. He took to social media to clarify his stance, saying, “Don”t let the headline fool you. I respect Florida State and every program I visit. I just hold everything to a high standard including myself.” His father, Ronald Vickers, also expressed his frustration, tweeting, “My son did not say that about a program he grew up loving. Period!!”

To further mend the situation, Vickers shared a more positive recap of his visit with another recruiting outlet, stating, “I really loved practice. Love how the coaches challenge the players. Even though they”re coming off a break, really challenging them and pushing them to the maximum extreme, just to get the best out of them.”

Additionally, Vickers made an appearance on the Doak Talk podcast, where both he and his father discussed their experience and expressed surprise at the negative reactions following his comments. Vickers emphasized that he did not intend to offend Florida State or its supporters and hopes to move past the drama.

Ultimately, this situation could be viewed positively for the Seminoles, as Vickers” willingness to speak out demonstrates his desire to maintain a good relationship with the school. His interest in Florida State remains strong as he navigates his recruitment process.
