Aaron Rodgers Could Return to Steelers in 2026 with Key Coaching Change

Rumors are swirling that Aaron Rodgers might not be ready to retire from the NFL just yet. The 42-year-old quarterback, who signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers after being released by the New York Jets, hinted at a potential coaching connection that could influence his decision to play again.

Last summer, Rodgers took considerable time to determine his next move, which ultimately led him to Pittsburgh. Recently, he mentioned in a conversation about his future that he would consider “wherever Mike McCarthy ends up” as a viable next step. This comment has ignited speculation as the Steelers are currently searching for a new head coach.

McCarthy, who previously coached Rodgers during their time together with the Green Bay Packers, led the team to a Super Bowl victory in 2010. Their successful partnership lasted for 13 seasons, during which they achieved impressive milestones, including a regular-season record of 100 wins, 57 losses, and one tie. Rodgers also secured two of his four MVP awards while under McCarthy”s guidance.

The two worked closely together, culminating in a Super Bowl XLV championship and multiple playoff appearances. However, McCarthy was dismissed in 2019 after the Packers missed the playoffs twice in a row. Despite the split, Rodgers and McCarthy have maintained contact, fueling speculation about a reunion in Pittsburgh.

If the Steelers can successfully bring McCarthy on board, it could pave the way for Rodgers to extend his career into his 22nd NFL season. The prospect of reuniting with a coach who has played a significant role in his career may be just the motivation Rodgers needs to return to the field.
