Alec Lemon Named Head Coach of The Walker School Football Team

A former NFL wide receiver has been appointed as the head football coach at a Georgia high school. Alec Lemon, who holds the record for receptions at Syracuse University, will lead The Walker School in its upcoming seasons.

Lemon, an alum of Arundel High School in Gambrills, Maryland, made a significant impact during his high school career, recording 1,616 receiving yards in his senior year. He also tied the records for touchdowns and receptions in a season with 23 and 103, respectively, while contributing defensively with 30 tackles, six interceptions, and two forced fumbles.

In addition to his football prowess, Lemon was a standout athlete in baseball and basketball. He committed to Syracuse, where he achieved All-Big East honors, being named to the first team in 2012 and the second team in 2011. During his senior year at Syracuse, he registered 73 catches for 1,074 yards and seven touchdowns, following a junior season with 69 receptions and 834 yards.

After going undrafted in the 2013 NFL Draft, Lemon was signed as a free agent by the Houston Texans, though he was placed on injured reserve. The following year, he joined the practice squad of the Baltimore Ravens before spending a brief period with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Canadian Football League.

In his previous coaching role at Glen Burnie High School, Lemon led the team to an impressive turnaround. Under his guidance, the Gophers improved from a 2-7 record in his first year to a 7-4 finish last season, achieving a total of 28 wins over five years. Notably, Glen Burnie advanced to the second round of the Maryland Class 4A state playoffs for four consecutive seasons and hosted its first home playoff game in the program”s history.

Lemon expressed his enthusiasm for his new position, stating, “I am truly honored to serve as The Walker School”s next head football coach. This is an incredible opportunity to join such a respected and distinguished institution. The support and strong sense of community that I felt while on campus are what make Walker so special.” He added, “Our student-athletes are motivated, driven and ready to make their mark as we move the program forward in a positive direction. I am excited to get to work and help elevate Walker football to new heights.”

Last season, The Walker School finished with a 2-8 record and reached the Class A-AAA Private state playoffs, although they could not compete due to player injuries. Lemon takes over from T.J. Anderson, who held the head coaching position for three seasons.
