The Arizona Cardinals have officially named Mike LaFleur as their new head coach, signing him to a five-year contract following his successful run as the offensive coordinator with the Los Angeles Rams. LaFleur”s offense achieved remarkable success in 2025, leading the NFL in scoring and total offensive production.
At just 38 years old, LaFleur takes the helm of the Cardinals after three seasons with the Rams, where his offensive strategies propelled the team to the NFC Championship game. In 2025, the Rams distinguished themselves by averaging the highest points per game in the league, as well as leading in several other key offensive categories, including total net yards and passing touchdowns.
During that season, quarterback Matthew Stafford topped the league in passing yards and touchdown passes, achieving career-high metrics in both areas. Wide receiver Puka Nacua led the NFL in receptions, while Davante Adams excelled in touchdown receptions despite playing only 14 games. Additionally, running backs Kyren Williams and Blake Corum combined for over 2,000 rushing yards, marking a notable achievement in Rams history.
Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill commented on the decision, stating, “We had the opportunity to speak with an outstanding group of candidates during this thorough process and gathered tremendous insight from each of them. At the end of that process, it was clear that Mike LaFleur possesses all the traits necessary to lead this team to success as its head coach. He is highly intelligent with an exceptionally sharp, creative football mind.” He emphasized LaFleur”s innovative leadership qualities as a perfect fit for the team”s future.
General Manager Monti Ossenfort praised LaFleur”s extensive coaching background, noting his experience with successful teams and his strong communication skills that have consistently brought out the best in players. “Mike understands what winning football looks like and what it takes to achieve it,” Ossenfort added.
LaFleur expressed his enthusiasm for the new role, stating, “I couldn”t be more fired up to become the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals and am beyond grateful to Michael and Monti for this opportunity. Having competed against them in the NFC so many times in recent years, I know the type of talent and toughness the team has and cannot wait to get to Arizona to hit the ground running.”
Throughout his tenure with the Rams, LaFleur”s offense was consistently among the best in the league, achieving numerous playoff appearances and setting franchise records for touchdown passes in a season. His innovative play-calling and strategic mindset have earned him recognition as one of the top offensive minds in the NFL.
Before his time with the Rams, LaFleur also served as the offensive coordinator for the New York Jets, guiding standout rookie Garrett Wilson to impressive achievements. His coaching career includes stints with the San Francisco 49ers, where he contributed to the team”s Super Bowl LIV appearance.
As LaFleur steps into his new role with the Cardinals, the organization is hopeful that his proven track record of success will translate into a new era of competitiveness and achievement for the team.
