Avon Eagles Prepare for Division II Semifinal Against Walsh Jesuit

The Avon Eagles are set to face Walsh Jesuit in the Division II state semifinal at the University of Akron, continuing their quest for a state title. This matchup, taking place on November 28, comes after the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) announced the details of the game.

Avon”s head coach, Mike Elder, expressed his respect for the opposing team, stating, “Walsh Jesuit has players everywhere. They are ultra talented. Our guys will be excited and ready to play. The University of Akron is a really cool venue to play at.”

The Eagles enter this contest with a strong record of 12 wins and 1 loss, having recently secured the Division II Region 6 title for the eighth time in nine years with a victory over Medina Highland, finishing that game with a score of 36-19.

“These kids are really resilient, and they just prove people wrong week in and week out. I hope that people keep doubting them,” Elder added, reflecting on his team”s determination.

In this season, Walsh Jesuit boasts an impressive record of 11-1, with their only defeat occurring in Week 6 against Akron Hoban. However, they turned their season around by defeating the Knights 35-7 in the Division II Region 5 final on November 21.

Elder is familiar with Walsh Jesuit”s head coach, Nick Alexander, having served alongside him on the youth advisory council for the Cleveland Browns. Elder acknowledged Alexander”s coaching abilities, stating, “He is a really good football coach. He will have his team prepared.”

Last year, the Avon Eagles triumphed over Akron Hoban with a score of 35-10 at the same venue, leading them to the Division II state championship title. This year, they aim to replicate that success as they gear up for this critical semifinal showdown.
