In a significant move just days after being named head coach, Joe Brady has finalized his first coaching addition for the Buffalo Bills. The team has reached an agreement with Pete Carmichael Jr. to join as their new offensive coordinator, as reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network on Friday.
Carmichael, 54, brings extensive experience to the role. He has spent the past two seasons serving as the senior offensive assistant with the Denver Broncos. Prior to that, he dedicated 18 seasons to the New Orleans Saints as an offensive assistant, including a notable 15 years as the offensive coordinator, during which he helped lead the team to a Super Bowl victory in 2010.
His coaching career began in 1994 at the collegiate level with New Hampshire, and he made his NFL debut in 2000 with the Cleveland Browns as a tight ends coach. Brady, who previously worked as a young offensive assistant under Carmichael at the Saints during the 2017 and 2018 seasons, will now collaborate with him to oversee the Bills” offense. However, it is important to note that Brady has indicated he will be the one calling plays for the team.
This hiring marks a critical step for the Bills as they seek to enhance their offensive strategy under Brady”s leadership and Carmichael”s proven track record.
