Chance Trickett Joins West Virginia as Director of Player Evaluation

West Virginia University football coach Rich Rodriguez has announced the hiring of Chance Trickett as the new director of player evaluation. Hailing from Morgantown, Trickett brings nearly a decade of experience in NFL scouting, along with a strong background in roster construction and talent strategy.

“Chance has built an outstanding resume of scouting, evaluating, and recruiting experience at the FBS, Power Five, and NFL levels,” Rodriguez stated. “His extensive knowledge in these areas, combined with his legacy in West Virginia football, will have an immediate positive impact on our program.”

Trickett”s career has been marked by his expertise in player evaluation and long-term talent strategy. He has successfully managed multi-year roster planning, aligning talent evaluation with financial considerations, and leveraging analytics to identify top-tier prospects and cultural fits for teams. His ability to recognize undervalued talent and optimize roster efficiency has been a significant factor in his success.

Before joining the Mountaineers, Trickett spent almost ten years as a college area scout with the Los Angeles Rams. During his tenure in the NFL, he was responsible for comprehensive player evaluations that utilized film analysis, analytics, and psychological assessments to inform draft and roster decisions. He also created detailed positional value assessments and impact reports for long-term draft planning.

His previous roles include serving as the director of football recruiting at Louisiana Tech University and as a recruiting assistant at Florida State University. Trickett”s contributions to scouting have been recognized nationally, earning him the BART List Award for scouting excellence in 2025 and the Best Draft Award from the “Inside the League” scout/agent organization in 2024.

Having earned his bachelor”s degree from Florida State in 2011, Trickett is excited to return to his roots in Morgantown. He aims to play a key role in shaping the Mountaineers” roster as they look to enhance their competitive edge in college football.
